There's a new pub quiz on Stoke Newington Road. From Wednesday 27th May, Quizzer is running a weekly quiz at The Marquee Moon, in the air-conditioned basement bar, 7pm sharp, every Wednesday.
If you know The Marquee Moon you'll know the place is a bit special: warm room, good food, opinions about wine. If you don't know it yet, this is a decent excuse to fix that.
The details
- When: Every Wednesday, from 7pm. Kicking off Wednesday 27th May.
- Where: The basement bar at The Marquee Moon, 48 Stoke Newington Road, N16 7XJ. (Air-conditioned!)
- Entry: £2 per person, teams of up to six
- Prizes: £50 bar tab for first place, £20 bar tab for second, plus some special prizes for the rounds we're keeping under wraps until the night
- Booking: Reserve a table here. Walk-ins welcome, but bookings get priority seating.
What to expect
This is a proper pub quiz. Pen and paper, no phones, and some great prizes. Five rounds of eight questions each, plus a picture round to mix things up. Around 90 minutes start to finish, with a proper break in the middle to refresh your drinks and argue about whether that was Bowie or Mott the Hoople.
We mix it up so the worst team in the room can always get a few, and the sharpest team can always be wrong about at least one. Bring three to six friends, bring your most contrarian uncle, bring the colleague who insists they're good at this. Whatever you need.
One thing worth flagging: we're starting at 7pm sharp, which is deliberate. The World Cup kicks off on 11th June and runs through to mid-July, with most of the headline evening games on UK time from 8pm onwards. A 7pm quiz means you can win a bar tab, settle the music round arguments, and still be ready for the football. Quiz first, football after. Nobody has to miss either.
Why The Marquee Moon
The Marquee Moon reopened earlier this year after a major refurb. The quiz is happening every week in the basement bar: tucked away from the main pub upstairs, dim lighting, decent acoustics, and air-conditioned, which matters more than you'd think once June rolls around.
The food menu doesn't pause for the quiz. Order plates between rounds; the cheeseburger and the beef tartare are both worth it. They take wine and cocktails seriously here too, so come thirsty.
